EEN’s email alert
messages are based on emergency information aggregated from federal government
agencies and public safety emergency groups such as the US National Weather
Service, US Geological Service, the Red Cross and other emergency authorities.
Members of the public can sign up to receive EEN alerts through a
confidential database system on the EEN website based on their geographic
location and needs. When an
emergency situation arises, EEN aggregates and transmits public safety
agencies’ messages to pagers, cell phones and personal computers of EEN
subscribers. In operation since
1999, EEN is the largest private provider of official emergency preparedness
communications in the nation, operating a free public service email network
which facilitates direct electronic access to citizens and constituents by
county and city governments and select public service agencies for the
dissemination of emergency information. EEN
also makes customized, private network email notification services available
to private companies and organizations on a fee basis.
