LOCAL PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES AROUND THE COUNTRY FIND WAYS TO INFORM THE PUBLIC

JACKSONVILLE, FL (20  November 2001) – The Emergency Email Network (EEN) today announced that 35 new city and county public safety agencies in communities across the country are using its service to communicate with the public about emergencies.  EEN provides a free service that transmits emergency information to citizens from federal agencies, city and county governments and public safety agencies via emails to pagers, cell phones and personal computers.

The public safety groups that have joined EEN range from local and regional police and fire safety, emergency management and rescue groups. “What really helped is that I signed up on my cell phone using my mobile email … which kept me alert while I was driving as to the location of the hurricane as the information was available,” said an official from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

“EEN is meeting the rapidly increasing demand for our services by expanding EEN’s partnerships with city and county public safety agencies all around the country. In times of national crisis, EEN’s system transmits emergency information emails to citizens, bypassing congested national news and government websites and allowing users to be notified and updated as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

EEN’s email alert messages are based on emergency information aggregated from federal government agencies and public safety emergency groups such as the US National Weather Service, US Geological Service, the Red Cross and other emergency authorities.  Members of the public can sign up to receive EEN alerts through a confidential database system on the EEN website based on their geographic location and needs.  When an emergency situation arises, EEN aggregates and transmits public safety agencies’ messages to pagers, cell phones and personal computers of EEN subscribers.  In operation since 1999, EEN is the largest private provider of official emergency preparedness communications in the nation, operating a free public service email network which facilitates direct electronic access to citizens and constituents by county and city governments and select public service agencies for the dissemination of emergency information.  EEN also makes customized, private network email notification services available to private companies and organizations on a fee basis.  To sign up for this service and learn more, please visit: www.emergencyE.com
